- Make sure your vehicle has been given a tune-up before you start driving.
- Pack along an emergency repair kit and make sure you're wearing warm clothing if you have to get out of the vehicle.
- Get frequent stops on the road to make sure you stay awake, and if possible, switch drivers if you're very tired.
- Have a plan in place if the weather gets inclement.
